School Concerts
To celebrate special days from the history of Greece and Cyprus, the children put together plays and concerts which are performed at the end of normal lessons with the opportunity for parents and relatives to attend. Examples include: Independence Day for Cyprus (October 1st 1960), Greek Uprising against Turkish Rule (October 28th 1821), Greek refusal to surrender to Moussolini (October 28th 1940), as well as traditional celebrations like Mother's Day, Christmas and Easter.
Social Events
The school also holds various events throughout the year, where children and their families have the oportunity to meet other families with Greek backrounds. Previously, trips have been organised to the British Museum, which the children and their families were invited to partake in. On our last trip to the museum a coach and guide were provided and arrangements made to view Greek and Cypriot artefacts. During the weeks leading up to the trip, lessons were planned around Greek history. Whilst at the Museum, the children completed topic sheets.
Other social events include dinners at the hall where members of the committee cook Greek food and entertainment is provided through Greek musicians and dancers. There is usually a raffle where prizes are donated by local businesses. There have also been get-togethers at various restaurants and families have become good friends and regularly socialise.
All parents are welcome to become members of the committee.'
